 The GSMA recommends abolishing the income tax advance on telecommunications services The Global Mobile Industry Association (GSMA) has proposed the phasing out of advance income tax (AIT) on telecommunications services. According to the GSMA, this will improve the affordability of mobile services and encourage the uptake of communication services in the country. The GSMA wrote a letter to the Federal Revenue Office (FBR) and IT and telecommunications minister Aminul Haq, recommending that the AIT be reduced from 15 percent to 8 percent in the upcoming federal budget. It further emphasizes that, in addition to general taxes, mobile consumers face a heavy burden of sector-specific taxes.
