General Motors (GM) has announced that its next-generation hands-free driving system, Ultra Cruise, will be powered by a completely redesigned compute architecture, featuring system-on-chips (SoC) developed by the American semiconductor Qualcomm. The upcoming Cadillac Celestiq Electric Sedan will debut in 2024 as GM’s first vehicle to feature Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Ride Platform-based advanced driver-assist system (ADAS). GM claims that the new architecture, which is the size of “two laptops stacked together”, will possess power equivalent to “several hundred” personal computers.
