Russia is launching its own version on the Google Play Store

Recent developments show that Russian technology developers are building an alternative to Alphabet Inc.'s Google Play Store. and plan to launch it on May 9, a national holiday in Russia celebrating the country's victory over World War II.

Earlier this month, YouTube, Apple and Google Play suspended all payment-based services in the country, including subscriptions, as Western sanctions for Russia's invasion of Ukraine began to pose national banking challenges. According to Vladimir Zykov, project director of Digital Platforms, a digital development organization:

Unfortunately, the Russians can no longer use Google Play to buy applications, and the developers have lost their source of income. That's why we set up an app store in Russia, NashStore.

Translated into English as "OurStore", NashStore will not only be used for Android mobile devices, but will also be compatible with Russian Mir bank cards, a Russian payment system for electronic money transfers set up by the Central Bank of Russia. It is customary for Russia to hold a patriotic demonstration on May 9 of the country's raw military force with a promenade passing through Moscow's Red Square on the occasion of the anniversary of the Soviet victory.

Earlier this month, Google blocked mobile applications connected to RT and Sputnik from the Play Store, in line with an early move to remove Russian state publishers from news-related features. . Following this, the Russian communications regulator blocked Google News in the country last week and accused them of accessing so-called "fake content" about the country's military operations in Ukraine.
